Something Simpler...

The brainstorming process has gone on longer than I expected… Last class Brooke and I thought we could do something about a man going off to war and having to tell his wife. The idea was fine, but we had trouble trying to figure out how to execute it. We aren’t passionate about any of our ideas, so we’re struggling to decide on one.

The idea takes place in 1944 during WW2, so we began to do research on the time period. We began by getting outfit inspiration from websites we found online. We noticed that every woman seems to be wearing dresses with long skirts which we expected, but still took note of. Something we didn't expect; however, was the hairstyle. Brooke didn't know how we would recreate them, but I've had to do a lot of different hairstyles for projects, so I'm sure we could figure something out.

The next thing we looked at where mise-en-scene elements for the house. This is when we realized how impractical this idea was. Recreating the style from the 1940s was not going to be easy. We kept having ideas we didn't like and wouldn't be able to create... until that changed.

We decided we need something simpler and suddenly I got an idea. A hardworking person who earns enough money to get something they've been wanting (like a hotel), the rest of the film will be her beginning to plan how to start the business and the struggles that come with it. I texted Brooke and pitched her the idea with a few of the shots. We're still working out the details, but we think it'll start with her at her place of work (cleaning someone's house).

I think we're going to stick to this idea and we will begin planning next week!
